Maybelline SuperStay 24 hour foundation: Surprisingly excellent

By Aisling | December 17 2010 | 13 Comments

Finishing my trusty bottle of Mac Studio Fix I was looking around for a new foundation.  We’re constantly looking for new foundations on Beaut.ie – check this out to see some of the ones you’re rating at the moment.

You see I like decent coverage that’s not cakey, that doesn’t rub off too easily and won’t make my dry skin look like the Sahara. And it can be difficult to fulfil all these criteria with a budget foundation.  Check out this post: Best for day with medium coverage to see some good picks

The “science” for Maybelline SuperStay 24 hour foundation slid past me – all the “micro flex stretch formula” and other guff is wasted on the likes of me. I want to try it out and simply see if it does the job.

And it does, I’m very pleased to report. Covers well, good finish and good colour. Not transfer resistant though – I wish makeup would stop making that stupid claim. Nothing can be transfer resistant unless it’s paint.

And although long lastingness is also a tiresome claim at the moment, with products claiming to last until practically the next week, this does actually live up to its 24 hour claims. I’m ashamed to admit that I went to bed really late one night, too tired to take my makeup off – so I can vouch for the fact that it was still there in the morning.

Buy this in any chemist or from Redroom.ie for €9.98, available in eight shades. Normal RRP down the shops is €13.99!

  • I love the lengths you go to to test product claims for this site Aprodite!!!

  • “Nothing can be transfer resistant unless it’s paint.” In my head I have a picture of you with a Dulux shade card held against your face and the hardware man at the mixing machine :)

  • I think Maybelline is actually pretty consistently good with bud-jay foundations. The dream creamy one is good as well – the only prob for me is lack of pooka-white shades really.

  • Yes, I really like Maybelline foundations, though I agree it can be hard to get pale shades with some of them. Like bought two different ones, both in ivory and one was so much darker than the other!

  • I actually have been using this foundation for a while i like the coverage and it does last well through the day but i have been thinking of changing as it is quite drying..or else its just all this cold weather!! “Because winter hates your face”!

  • Would this only be good for dry skin or is there an oily skin option??

  • I’m using Max Factor xperience, as recommended by Kirstie. It’s amazing, good coverage but stll dewy and lasts all day. I can’t recommend it enough.

Lolo – as far as I can see this is not going to be great for oily skin – try getting a sample from the stand/swatching it and see what you think

Georgygirl and ams – there are no limits to my testing!

  • Have you any idea if there are enough shades for sallower skin that have more yellowy undertones… I have been having a rough time w pink undertoned foundations that make me look like a Barbie.
