Lip Service: Topshop Lipstick in Brighton Rock

Apologies for the rather ... worn ... state of the lipstick above, but this is because I love it and use it all the time. It was one of the Topshop makeup products I bought when the line launched, expected to be disappointed with, and then found myself using all the time.

They say it's pink, but I say it's a little more complicated than that. Brighton Rock, €12, has a lot of orange in the mix and is a lot like Revlon's Pink About It, which doesn't actually look the traditional vision of pink on the lips. And all the better for it, really.

Giving a fairly matte result, I find this drying, but all mattes tend to be, so that's not a criticism of this particular product. Longevity's ok and I like the fact it delivers decent opacity and brightness too.

There is, though, one thing I really, really hate about it.

The packaging, when new, is really nice. Very crisp and graphic, the fact the tubes are metal is a nice touch. But they get grubby so bloody quickly. Mine gets thrown into my bag along with, obviously, my pens and keys and all sorts of other lady-paraphernalia and this is the result. Yeah. Yuck. I can't get it off, either. After a while, you don't really want to take it out in public cos you're all ashamed of its grubby child ways. (Of course, I could just keep it away from pens)

It's a small thing really, and not enough to put me off it, and certainly luxe lipsticks aren't immune from grubby bullets either - YSL's lipsticks are notoriously stainey for example, and the gilt packaging marks and scratches really easily.

Here it is on my lips - lovely, eh? Have you tried any of Topshop's lipsticks? What did you think?
