I love the John Frieda purple shampoo and conditioner. I have naturally quite dark brown hair so it can be difficult keeping my highlights a nice bright blonde. I find this works wonders.
I use the purple shampoo twice or three times whenever my hair needs a bit of a boost, as I think it might be a bit drying to use all the time (my hair is quite dry anyway). When I first used it my boyfriend even asked if I had got my hair done and he never notices anything, so thats proof to me that it works ;-)
I always buy it on three for two in Boots with the conditioner and serum which I use religiously. Its a great price compared to the professional in-salon versions

Pinky...I recently bought the John Frieda "Go Blonder" shampoo and conditioner which is supposed to gradually lighten your hair. It's not actually purple shampoo but I found it had the same effect as the L'oreal one so I scrubbed my hair (literally, with exfoliating gloves) with a deep cleansing shampoo to get ride of the residue and that helped!! Now I'm still using the John Frieda (since I paid more for it than my student budget really allows) but rinsing it really, really quickly so it doesn't "stain" my hair!!

Bluebell! I think that happened to me with the L'Oreal. I was using Wella SP Silver Saver which was the BUSINESS. But of course they discontinued it and I started using the L'Oreal one. Started noticing horrible brassy bits and didnt cop until you said it, that the L'Oreal one might be to blame. So pissed off because it wasn't cheap. Wonder would the John Frieda one be worth paying for?
