Beaut.ie Confessions: Do I Use Handcream? Um, well …

I had to laugh at last week’s Afternoon Show starring our very own Aphrodite. Not at her bit, you understand, but when Image beauty ed Liz Dwyer proclaimed in a no-nonsense fashion that she wasn’t generally bothered with hand cream,  it rang about 90 bells with me. Liz is great – totally no nonsense and very knowledgeable, she really does say it as she sees it.

While I like getting hand cream samples in the post, I love trying them out and I definitely like writing about the stuff, I’m not so good on the follow-through. A check on my bedside table reveals a towering pile of books and four hand creams from Bliss, Nivea plus two newbies from Guerlain and Sisley. None is very well used …

My intention is to slap the stuff on before I go to sleep. I’d say I remember about once a fortnight, and I’m just not one of these people who keeps a tube on her desk in the office either. I don’t particularly care for the feeling immediately afterwards and don’t fancy a keyboard choked up with product to boot.

I, like Liz, work on the premise that my face cream will do the business – I mix whatever I’m applying to my face between my palms and then smooth it on using the flat of my hands. Then I rub ‘em together, so they do get some love. Not enough, though – my paws are dry, my cuticles are in tatters and my nails are very prone to splitting and peeling.

If I could force myself to remember to apply pre-bed, I’d be on to a winner – and I’m guessing I’m not the only one with an under-used stash, too. Rate your faves and tell us your hand cream habits in a comment!
