Sneaky Peek Foundation Trial: Prescriptives All Skins Mineral Makeup 16 Hour Wear

Oh, the things I do for ‘Tis a terrible hard old life altogether, getting samples of stuff and checking out their goodness properties.  And it’s all for you guys. Ok, ok – a little bit of it might benefit me, too.

Prescriptives managed to sway me from my stern ‘I hate minerals’ stance when All Skins powder launched last year. Now they’ve liquidised it, and I’m glad to see that because while I did – and do – genuinely like their powder foundation, I’m still a fluid kinda gal at heart. It just suits my skin better. The new fluid All Skins Mineral Makeup isn’t on counter until August 1st, but I thought I’d tell you about it now so you could start saving.

DoubleWear Light fans will really like this, I think – the coverage is very good – more than medium, though a good bit less than full – though it’s best applied with your fingers. My MAC 187 brush didn’t like it and didn’t want to buff it in at all, but fingies did a fine job. You don’t even need to set it with powder either, if you don’t want – it quickly turns to a nice matte finish, making it a keeper for oilier skins.

There’ll be 18 shades on offer, in cool and warm tones (see, this is why I like this brand so much, they really take the confusion out of beauty-buying) and I was matched to be Level One – Cool, which perfectly mimics my Casper The Friendly Ghost complexion.

The product also promises 16 hour wear, but I didn’t test that aspect of it because I think wearing makeup for that amount of time is pretty ganky on a regular basis. It does last, though, and it’s non-drying. I generally fall out with foundations that don’t suit me after just a day, because my face goes into Saharan-mode, and that’s that.

A non-chemical SPF (that’ll be the minerals, so!) provides a factor of ten and makes this a more suitable buy for a sensitive skintype than a product containing a chemical version, so plus points there too.

All in all, I rate this as a good buy, and at €38 for 30ml, not hideously expensive either.

is it very matte – would it dry out dry skins? i hate when foundation flakes up your face!

  • Kirstie says:

Baby – nope, it’s not drying out mine, but it does give a nice matte finish, so it’s an alternative for someone with an oilier skintype who can’t use ‘glowy’ formulations.

Is this available in Brown Thomas or?? I dont think I’ve come across the brand in store before and wouldnt mind trying to blag a sample…

  • Kirstie says:

It’s only in BT dublin and House of Fraser (stockist info here:

Not sure what the story will be with samples but it’ll be on counter in about 3 weeks.

Fudge :( I live in Cork… Last to get everything down here!

  • Kirstie says:

BT are really good at mail order actually, but you’d need to know your shade first by having them try it out on you in-store. One for the next time you’re up in Dublin?

  • legalyblonde says:

Hmmm… The other half is from Kerry so doubtless there will be a trip to Croke Park (Grrrr….) at some stage this summer, not a half bad plan to get them to mail order it, I would never have thought of that!! Thanks Kirstie :)

God I love Prescriptives and this sounds fab! I’m overdue a visit to the counter but to be honest I’m scared that when I get there, I’ll lose the run of myself :(

i was in america during the summer and i have quite bad acne so i was on the hunt for this “fantastic” mineral make up that would do wonders for my skin and i came across prescriptives while browsing in macys! i tried on the make up and it was fabulous!! it was so nice on my skin and i LOVED it :) i even bought two bottles because i wasn’t sure if they did it back home! then i came home and my mam said to me that my skin wasn’t loking the best and to stop using the make up for a while which i did and it all cleared up! when i went to use it again it did the same thing!

whilst reading the back of the foundation i counted the ingredients(!) and there were 49 which i thought was quite a lot for a healthy, mineral foundation so i then went and got my mum’s bare mineral’s make up which had five!

i wouldn’t recommend this make up defo!! xx
