Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Foundation with SPF15

When I phoned the mammy to check on how she was getting on with the new Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Foundation with SPF15, I was unprepared for her reaction.

“Hi mum”, I began, “just calling you to see how you’re liking that Smashbox compact foundation I gave you to test?” “Well”, she said, “well.” Oh dear. I was getting a bad feeling about this, until she continued, “it is the best makeup I have ever tried. I absolutely love it”.

Jaysis, I haven’t had a reaction like that from her before. Usually it’s all, “hmmm, it was OK”, or more likely, “oh yes, I really must try that.” This though, in mammy’s opinion, beats foundation compacts she’s tried from brands like Revlon, Dior and Giorgio Armani, so Smashbox are presumably doing something right.

The claims they make for the product – that it’s a “luxurious, creamy formula [that] glides on effortlessly to create a semi-matte and flawless finish without being cakey or heavy” were echoed by mum. “This is nice and light, and gives a dewy finish”, she reckons, and in fact, finds it far less weighty than a Clinique base she’d been using previously.

So, would she buy it again? “Absolutely”, she confirms. “This is a lifer.”

Available now, Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Foundation with SPF15 comes in 10 shades and costs €38.

i got the hdroglow or whatever powder for my sis for xmas
now, she loved it, thought it fab n it looked great on but she reckoned it wasn’t worth €65

.. now this is only €38
but is it suitable for dry skin?
and while i like dewy.. i’m annoyed that i seem to need a bit more coverage at the mo cos my skin’s in terrible shape

Glitter – I’m not a fan of compacts at all, so this was a mammy-test because she loves them, and she’s tried quite a few. Her skin would be dry, yes, and she reckons the coverage is good – but natural looking – and it’s very easy to apply with the brush. I was surprised at how effusive she was about it!

I tend to avoid compacts because I have dry skin. The price on this seems pretty reasonable, but i have a feeling if i purchased it would be resigned to my “doesn’t suit me, but yet I can’t bring myself to throw out” basket.

does “dewy” mean shiny? Im looking for a compact as I think it would be handy to just chuck in the mála for going out, but was considering mac studio fx. This looks really handy though, I like the brush yoke, however shine is a problem for me so dewy can be awful!

Twinkle – no, I think she meant it didn’t look flat and caked-on.

I have the chanel compact & love it :D
    Nice dewy finish to it
Natural looking, if you like more coverage you just put more on :D

Ceci – I have dry skin and I love compact foundations! I’m currently using Bobbi Brown Moisturising Cream Compact in Porcelain and it’s gorgeous. I’ve also used Chanel compact foundations.

Steer clear of powder foundations, always go for the cream ones.

I had a look at this compact at lunchtime (O’Learys Pharmacy on Grand Parade have just started to stock Smashbox!) and it’s quite creamy in texture. Could be good for dry skin but, as always, you’d have to give it a go first before purchasing.

There’s also a decent amount of product in the compact so it looks like it would last for quite a while.

Millie – Which Chanel compact do you have?

  • ceci says:

Thanks MontyC, maybe I should trial some compacts cos I always avoid them and a compact sure is handier and less messy than liquid when you’re on the go.

  • MontyC says:

    Ceci – Absolutely!
