Four ways to prevent ingrown hairs - and one to dig them out

woman epilating her leg

Yesterday when we were talking about ways to save on defuzzing the subject of epilators was discussed. Cheap as anything, epiliation would be near perfect if it weren't for one thing. The ingrown hairs it causes.

And it really does cause one hell of a problem. Nasty little red bumps on your legs and bikini 'area' that are really really difficult to get out. It's enough to bring tears to my eyes.

So when I went through a really bad phase of ingrowns I (through painful trial and error) discovered a methodology that would keep the little feckers away. Prevention is of course better than cure, but if you didn't prevent properly you might well want to invest in a pointed tweezers and dig them out. Ugh.

Here's what I found works:

  1. Exfoliate before you epilate
  2. Lash on the body lotion regularly
  3. Exfoliate your legs regularly afterwards
  4. Invest in a product to prevent ingrown hairs. They do actually work. You just need to rub them over any epilated areas and they’ll let the hair grow back up straight. PBF Vanish works well but the one I really like is Bliss Ingrown Hair Eliminating Peeling Pads
