Hi everyone,
My lovely boyfriend is a pure whitey with ginger hair and freckles God bless him! It's taken 3 years for me to convince him that the peeling lobster look is not attractive and that he will never tan! Keep buying suncreams/moisturisers for him but he hates wearing them because they're greasy or too thick. I use Dermologica Age Smart moisturiser SPF 30 but I think he needs at least spf 50. Can anyone recommend a good light daily moisturiser with spf 40/50?
Thanks : )

Seequin - I'm no expert, just a pale blue person like a lot of the population here!

I'm all into the decanting though - into 30-50 ml squeezy bottles, the business.

Durable sunscreen, hmmm hmmm, now there's a challenge:
- a lot with "sport/waterproof/sweatproof" in the name are worth a try, but a lot aren't, as I guess you've figured out for yourself, being a professional courier.
- actually, I found ones meant for kids were very good - heavy-duty, not very pretty, but they work and stay put for a good long time. Some also come in funny colours then fade once on (there's a couple of really fetching green ones out there) - so you can see where you've applied and where not.
- and I may not be the best person to ask, as I'm a bit restricted in sunscreens I use to the ones I don't react to - so the physical ones so far.

Having said that, here are some I've tried and tested that are pretty durable and high-powered:
- Of those regularly available in Dublin shops, Hamilton (also talked about here on Beaut.ie) is really good stuff.
- As is E45.
- And Lavera Neutral Sensitive spf 30 baby/kids spray - I use this pretty much everywhere except face. Shake and spray: probably the lightest-weight sunscreen they do, and still very substantial and waterproof. Needs oil for removal. Their Neutral 40 cream is good too, but much thicker and you get less for your money. If you prefer a cream, their baby/kid spf 30 cream is sort of between the two.

- Best stuff I've used - got it online from Coolibar, you can also get it from Magellan's and other travel outfitters in the UK: Blue Lizard (Sensitive/Baby, SPF 30: I love this stuff and its gallon containers), Vanicream (30 and 60), and Solbar (Shield 40).

The Vanicream 60 is very solid. Nearly as good as a complete coat of zinc oxide baby bottom rash cream... and about as appealing... but I wore this in the tropics in summer and didn't get burned, indeed, skin was still cool to the touch!!!

- Also Coppertone and Banana Boat do good ones.

Hope that's helpful! Warning, though - these are heavyweight sunscreens, and kind of the opposite end of the spectrum from the elegance of the Clarins and other face veils. (I just saw there's a Precriptives one like that too, looks luvvly).

Totally true about makeup protecting your face, Aphrodite. I inadvertently got burned on my arms and "the delicate area of the decolletage", as Joan Collins would say, but my face was fine as I have SPF in my moisturiser and foundation - I was very impressed. But annoyed with myself for getting burned at all!

Gingerrama! you seem to be a total expert in all things suncare, I throw factor 30 on my limbs and spf 50 ( the la roche posay one) on my face and neck ... it's really light and nice on face for suncream...however I courier, meaning encounters with pouring rain, sweat all the sporty type inconveniences, anyone have recommendations of creams which are more durable?
I would like to avoid reapplying, already lug a lot of stuff i.e. lock. tools etc so need to keep weight down.
However all suggestions welcomed I can just refill into travel size containers.

Yup, like I said - the Vichy's vvv similar to La Roche-Posay Anthelios fluid others of that ilk from the same stable - L'Oreal, Garnier - and indeed a Lancome verion - all made by L'Oreal group, hence family similarities verging between country cousin and twin.

But warning re. their sunscreening agents (in-part TiO2 but mainly chemical from Mexoryl etc.) - test before you buy, especially if you have sensitive skin or have known previous sensitivities to any sunscreens...
