Ireland: blog nation

Wisha put another sod on the range now there and I'll tell ye a tale. It's 2008 but it seems we're still going to school through the fields, getting the Mass in the hedge and dancing at the crossroads. We're lucky to be getting any spuds for the dinner at all I'll tell ye. And we're a nasty lot too. Jaysus you can't go safely onto the modern Interweb without the barking and shouting of the unwashed.

Hmmm. Hang on a minute now and I'll tell you another story.

  • In January 08 alone, almost 170,000 of you visited Beaut.ie (unique visitors. 169561 , to be precise).
  • Most of you are loyal readers and visited repeatedly, because we had well over 5 million hits in that one month.*
  • You comment like crazy - we've racked up nearly 90,000 comments since we began (in Sept 06).

So why am I telling you all this? Cos there's been a lot said recently about Ireland lacking a vibrant blogging community and hardly anyone reading blogs.

Ireland has a fantastic blogging community and we've been welcomed and encouraged since we first set out our stall. Our readership has grown month on month.

In fact blogging is the best fun you can have with your mascara on. (Plus bronzer, eyeshadow and lipgloss - well this IS Beaut.ie after all!)

And for what its worth we say yay Twenty Major - we look forward to the sequel!

Now now Granny, I'm bringing you your tae so I am, don't be mithering. Just putting on my good red petticoat and my brogues, getting the dunkey loaded up and we'll be off to sell a few eggs at the market. In a few years the Interweb might take off on these shores - who knows?
