beauty discoveries 2008

The past 12 months have been interesting times for beautyholics.

We’ve had the rise of goth-glam (who can forget letterbox liner, eh?), with deep, dark lips coming back into play, Olay premiered their first luxury cream, designed to  do battle on lines, sags and wrinkles – and take on their opposition – and this was also the year in which vibrating mascaras motored onto the market. We’ve looked at snake massages and snake venom skincare, I found out I quite liked Head and Shoulders, and Revlon shook up the foundation market with their Custom Creations base.

But what I want to know is, what were your cosmetic highlights of 2008? What products did you discover that are now indispensable to you?  Did you hit on a beauty look this year you love and won’t be without? Dish all here!

I think Benefit Posey Tint was the best buy I made of 2008, it’s so pretty. Has anyone tried Charlotte Tillbury’s range MyFace, I’m dying to hear what it’s like it looks so good….

    just cosmetics or skincare too?
on the skincare front i’m still loving apivita! i reg use the pink clay mask, apricot scrub, green tea face mask and the green tea moisturiser
really like the soap & glory body scrub

cosmetics wise.. i think it could be nars turkish delight lip gloss, such a pretty go with everything pink.. and i’ve bought a few nars eyeshadows.. can can and jolie poupee duo – i do like nars, i have to say

i tend to be quite brand loyal when i find something i like so nars would be the main new brand i’ve gone for this year and i guess the same can be said for apivita!

    oo! and lancome virtuose mascara!

    EVERYTHING beauty related!

I think some of the things I’ve liked the most have been YSL’s rouge volupte lipsticks – I friggin ADORE them – bobbi brown’s custom palettes, guinot and darphin skincare and Lancome’s oscillation mascara which I am in love with. I also adore Bourjois’ lip tints and use them all the time.

And sure who could forget the fact we now have a Space NK, eh?

Oh, I discovered that overloading my skin with loads of different products doesn’t work wonders for me – so I simplified my skincare – a lot!
Weleda for both face and body, Burt’s Bees Baby Almond oil – smells so yummy :)
Chanel lipglosses – I want all of them.

Oh, and my accidental discovery – Missoni perfume. Got it for my mum, but fell in love with it myself. It’s just everything I was looking for :D

  • Admin says:

ooh which one? I do love Acqua myself

  • becks says:

I bought the eve lom cleanser just before christmas (only used it twice so far) but I like very much. Would need to give it another week though.

The lancome telescopic mascara was a good budget buy. rather than €23 on a lancome one that goes missing.

Mac lip shine in a raspberry colour over a nude lipliner – on my second one and I rarely get to the second one of lip stuffs.

  • becks says:

    Meant l’oreal telescopic mascara.

  • KelBell says:

Well mine would be Bois des Iles perfume and like you sweetie – simplifying my skincare routine. Ultraceuticals and Dr Hauschka are my go to skincare ranges at the moment.

Admin – what stuff would you recommend from Darphin?

  • Admin says:

becks – second you on eve lom. Just a beautiful, effective product.

  • Admin says:

KellBell – they have some beautiful ltd edition fragrances at the moment which should still be on counter, and skincare wise, I absolutely ADORE their 8 flower nectar, it’s an incredibly nourishing oil which my skin just drinks up. I love their fibrogene range too, it’s meant for mature skins but I find it fantastic. They also do gorgeous bath and body stuff too. Such a nice brand.

  • KelBell says:

Oooh, thanks Admin. I didn’t know they did fragrances. Must have a look at Darphin – is it in any of the department stores in Dublin?

  • sweetie says:

Not the Acqua… Hmm, what was the name… It’s either Missoni by Missoni, or M by Missoni… Their first perfume, the one in a yellowy-pink bottle. I jusl lurve it :D

  • Admin says:

KellBell – yep, it’s in Arnotts

  • KelBell says:

    Cheers Admin :)

  • Admin says:

No worries! I love to spread the Darphin news!

I recently discovered Chanel’s Eclat Lumiere (under eye concealer, or “Highlighter Face Pen”, the official name)and I love it! A big disappointment was Estee Lauder’s Projectionist Mascara-disappears in minutes.
